A lightshow with 100 drones and an orchestra

This is the year of the drone. Over the next few months, this amazing technology will revolutionize everything from security to delivery. To celebrate the amazing advances made in lightweight airborne robotics, Intel sponsored Ars Electronica Futurelab to create a Guinness record-breaking lightshow using 100 drones choreographed to live music.

Futurelab created their own ground control software to guide the drones, each bearing a single light, into intricate patterns and shapes. Intel's CEO, Brian Krzanich, described Drone 100 as a redefinition of the fireworks experience during his Keynote at CES 2016. We're sure you'll agree.

With the widespread increase in affordable drones and accessible open source software, it won't be long before this kind of display becomes commonplace.
